hi chaps, i'm looking to rid my brews of the "homebrew taste" as mentioned by someone in a previous post. Someone suggested that this was due to using brewing sugar. I'd like to use malt instead of sugar and have found the following site selling spray malt

Hi Schooner, yes that's right, this is sold in the UK by Youngs U Brew, it's literally called a "5 gallon pressure barrel" hence the post title. You can replace the screw top lid with a gas attachment and then introduce CO2.

Hi AC, thanks for the extra info, there is an attachment I can add so I can introduce CO2.
here's a link to a pic of the barrel, I linked as I wasn't sure if we allowed images directly into posts.

the barrel is literally a 5 gallon white plastic barrel-shaped container with a simple tap and a screw on lid at the top. Nothing else, nothing fancy, they are £15 in the local shop. you can swap the lid for a gas attachment and add CO2 with that if you wish.

5 gallon pressure barrel, how to...?
hi chaps, i've just bought myself a pressure barrel to put a batch of Wherry Real Ale into. I have several questions as I've been using bottle up till now.
1. I've heard I can either put the beer from primary into the barrel and add sugar as normal then wait, or I can force Co2 and drink. Can ...

2nd batch, how much sugar time bulk prime with?
hi chaps, my 2nd batch is nearly done, it's a generic real ale. I was wondering how much sugar to bulk prime with. My first batch was a bitter and I put 2oz into 23L and it was good, but almost lagerish in terms of bubbles.
I was thinking in this new batch 1/2oz into 20L as I want it almost flat as ...

real ale and barrel question
hi chaps, I'm hoping to brew up some Woodfordes Wherry, a real ale with little or no bubbles as they come off the pump. My question is:-
if I have a standard 40 pint barrel, what do I do once fermented? do i add CO2, or sugar? if so, how do I add CO2 etc and how much?
Sorry for the questions but i ...

first brew...update....first bottle opened
I've finally opened my first bottle (sorry I've opened it too early but couldn't resist!)
i've brewed a generic bitter from a kit as my first brew, fermented for about 10days, bottled for 2 weeks and been in the fridge for 2 days. What can I say? nothing has put a bigger smile on my face in ages ...

hi guys, thanks for the tips. yes I do put something over the tops of the bottles to stop O2 getting in while they sit, but won't let the next batch sit, will cap asap.
It's rather cold here in the UK at the moment and i'm struggling for a hot spot. if things are too cold will it just take longer ...

lurker's first post LOL (where are the bubbles?)
hi chaps, I've been lurking for the last week which I nursed my first brew and I bottled it yesterday.
I bulk primed it,
added the sugar
and got a nice foamy head on the top.
stirred it,
bottled it
let it sit for 30 minutes
capped the bottles
My question is, should my bottles have bubbles ...
