Random Exploding Screwtops

I have just finished consuming a batch of homebrew made to the following recipie-
1 x Coopers Real Ale
1 x Coopers BE2
1 x LDME
Made up to 22l, brewed at 18c and racked & bulk primed at 7g (Dextrose) per litre.

Bottled into 750ml twist top bottles supplied by various 'associates', they were all ...

37, 38 in October. I bought my first kit when I was about 20, and after a decade long break, have been brewing again seeriously for 6-7 years

Well, 48 hours on & my brew sat like a big bucket of brownish water. OG is 1.046 same as when I started. I bit the bullet & pitched a CPA starter I had prepared earlier.

I have a real problem with leaving a brew sitting doing nothing for 48+ hours. I have never had an infection but this seems to ...

Yeah, but did it work? can it be done?

Has anyone actually poured a couple of stubbies (or a longneck) into their brew & had a result?

Thats EXACTLY the way I look at it when I want to splash out & do somthing special. Two cartons of any decent commercial beer will cost at least $80, I once (after receiving a tax refund) bought a slab of Killkenny which cost over $60.

By comparison, I can barely conceive of spending more than $30 ...

Now thats a funny thing. As I ripped open the foil packet the teabag came in, I thought "The things in here feel just like those pellets HB guy showed me!"

He also had cones. Do you use these in the same way or they for more advanced brewers?

Thanks for your responses. I made my first brew about ...

Pellets v Teabags

In 'The Shop' today, I asked to purchase 12g of Cascade hops to add aroma to my latest brew. The HB guy immediately headed to the hop pellet bin when I asked, impertinantly " Couldn't I just use one of these teabags?" His response was "Yeah it probably won't make much difference."

So, my question ...

I voted for Liquid Malt because that is my preferred fermentable, but as a poor starving student , reduced to living on a strict budget, a kilo of BE2 is my usual choice & it always seems to turn out ok!

My local HB guy keeps his loose sachets in a plastic box, only the liquid yeasts are refridgerated!

Yeah I realise that the dregs are usually used to make a starter, but the simplicity of pouring the dregs straight from the bottle appeals to a lazy sod like myself

Mind you, I did have to empty a couple of stubbies of Coopers pale ale

Using Bottle 'Dregs' as Yeast

I have read a couple of posts on the forum from people who (if I understand correctly) simply poured the last inch or so from a bottle of Coopers and found their brews fermenting successfully.

Does this really work? If so, why doesn't everyone do it. I have just tried it myself, literally a few ...

Used the Caramalt with a Coopers Dark Ale. Only been in the bottle a week or so, but it tasted pretty good straight out of the fermenter

I just bottled my first Coopers PA yesterday, done as per instructions with a 1kg bag of BE2 & the kit yeast.

Gotta say, straight out of the fermenter it smelt & tasted sensational and I'm gonna do another tonight using a can of Morgans Caramalt.
