Hey all, Was thinking about getting a batch cranking so i can let it sit till summer, but instead of bottling i am considering kegging. Now my question to you all is whether i can keg it and force carbonate it when i want to use it, that way i dont need to keep it refridgerated and carbonated for 9 months when i want to drink it.
Thanks

I'd be thinking that if you kegged it and purged headspace of "air" then you could add say 100kpa of pressure and let it sit until needed.
Provided temp didn't vary too much.

Grabman, you say purge the headspace of air then fill with 100kpa of pressure. What do you mean, in lamens terms.

After you filled the keg the "empty" sapce above the beer is normal air which if sealed in the keg won't help your brew. So to purge this out your seal the keg and hook up your gas line, CO2 will flow in, then open pressure relief valve a couple of times to let air out and ensure that only CO2 remains in head space, this way the beer should be right to sit for a while to age.

Look at the Boyles law post,
I would suggest you chill it, carbonate it to the level you want then let it warm back up. That way, when you come to drink it cold again you will be at the right level.

I suggest you chill it, carbonate it, drink it, brew another. By the time summer comes you'll still have a keg awaiting, albeit hopefully a better brewed beer with all that experience under your belt (although your belt may be a few notches bigger).

Well,
Who can argue that?

Yeah I carbonate it to the desired pressure and then take it off to age.
When time to drink simply hook the keg back up at pouring pressure and shes all apples.

Number of kegs > number of taps = age

3 kegs / 2 taps = swap lines around depending onbrew required or see Doggers pics of his inline tap setup,

Nice comeback grab.
Nah, can only fit 2 in my fridge so the other 2 have to wait in the cellars.

When you have a keg, do you find you end up drinking more?
I fear that if I got a Keg I'd 'just one more' the whole lot on a quiet Tuesday evening.

Does take some wilpower but its just so much easier.
No capping etc and soooo much better to clean a keg or 2 after a weekend than a pile of bottles.

I don't find I drink that much more! But it's a real bugger half way through the night when a keg dies! I always feel I should clean it staright away
