labels

Post by yardglass »

evenin' all,

i used to have the crappy lick and stick bottle labels, does anyone (i know silk does) bother with them, doing proper ones i mean.

now that i'm starting to store a few lagers i wouldn't mind having a go.

don't know where to start though.

Designing lables are no problem for me (graphic Artist by trade) . It is getting them to the bottle is the hard thing for me. The type of paper, or lables work best.

Yardy, personally I wouldn't bother. I figure the extra costs involved start making the brew more expensive, but then again I seem to be getting more frugal as I age :D

If you are going down that track, try and find some el-cheepo die cut paper with gum arabic as the glue (as this will easily release the paper from the bottle with a soak in water when you need to rid the label). Keep the ink coverage to a minimum (as this can be quite a significant cost, unless you can re-fill). Also be aware that the ink used by most ink jet printers will run in moist conditions

There are several programs you could use for making the labels, just depends on how complex you want the labels to be.

Cheers, Ed

I have no problem with getting labels as my wife works for one of Australia's leading label manufacturers.

Problem is I never saw the need to label beers. I just put the brew number on the crown seal and then refer to my brew book.

For a while I put labels on my brews, designed them in Publisher. Ran them of using laser printer at work, then through photocopier etc. They were about the size of a playing card.

To fasten to bottle I used milk! Just brush the back of label wil milk and stick to bottle. To remove just soak in warm water and the labels fall of leaving no messy gum or anything behind.

It got to be a pain though so I wnet back to numbers on bottle cap after a while :!:

Grab,

Great idea about the milk, I have been looking for a quick and easy gum/glue for my own labels.

I have also been toying with the idea of doing a single, waterproof, bitch to remove, label to use on every brew I do, and waterproofing makes them last longer.

Yardy,

Check your brew shop, some carry gummed label paper.

p.s. I use "Word" for my labels.

Milk! Sounds like a cool idea.
I use UHU glue sticks but it comes off in the esky (as would milk I imagine?) makes for easy cleaning though.
Laser printers use colour fast ink and ordinary recycled paper works fine.....
I use Photoshop but only because I use it for work...
Cheers

Time permitting I'll keep doing it.
I only make a labels if the brew is drinkable.

I'd be keen to see some other's Brew names and labels.
