OK, I have a spare bit of ground in the back 100 acres. Where do I buy hop seeds from?

anti-fsck,

Hops RHIZOMES are available at many HBS (Grumpy's and Goliath Brewing have them).

From what I've read rhizomes are the way to go not seeds, bit or spare dirt, some sun and away you go!!

I tried seeds last year.. didn't work. & even if they did you then have to determine if your plants are female.. as only the females produce hop cones.
as Grabman says its best to go for the rhizome. as its guaranteed female.. & is more likely to sprout.
i've just ordered a golding rhizome from goliaths - $35 incl postage

db,

I've been thinking about growing hops but I'm not over endowed with green thumbs and $35 seems a bit exy for a plant that I'm even money to kill inside a month. Can you tell me if they are easy growers (accept being ignored until I remember that I need some hops)? How much does one plant produce? Can you make more plants from the original? Does it sound like I should stick to the prepackaged stuff?

Regards.

Apparently they are pretty easy (& quick) growers.. almost like weeds

i cant really say for sure.. but from what i gather they produce alot of cones but because the cones don't weigh much the haul isnt that great..

yes.. cuttings can be taken from the rhizome
