Fresh Wort Kits

Anyone know much about these Fresh Wort Kits ?
Are they a pre-mixed kit beer or are they a Pre-mixed all grain set up
Be interested in finding out for sure ..
Also has anyone tryed one ?

Thanks Doc ... well it just cost me 60 bucks to get my grain, hops & yeast for a all grain batch sent to me ..
So its a little cheaper prob not as fun to make thou ..
Hoping he next lot will be cheaper as i got 1kg of Saaz hops for 50 bucks and as far as the yeast goes, ill farm a few lots and see how i end up ..
I have now got everything together for a all grain brew now except I’m waiting on my water filters to arrive so I have really nice tasting water in my wort..
If ya have any ideas on how to make it cheaper please let me know ..

1kg of saaz hops for $50 is a good price. I guess you will be making pilsners for the foreseeable future? Did you get any bittering hops as well? I'd be lucky to go thru 100g of saaz in a year but then i can comfortably chew thru a few kg of fuggles/EKG/styrians and of course, amarillo.

Fresh Wort Kits up here were $39 and came with SAF yeast, not sure if they are the same price..

As far as AG, mine come in around the $30 for a batch, at $60, id be getting a grain mill and some bulk grain to cut that price right down..

Even my First AG(DRS GOLDEN ALE) came in at only about $37 total for grain, hops etc ordered from Ross crushed etc.. Mill is a necessity I believe..

I have used fresh wort kits and the cheap kits from home brew shops. The results with the fresh wort are much much better than any of the home brew tins. I think the mash all yourself would have even better results but of lazy people who want quick easy beer fresh wort kits are awesome.

Even if they cost $50 to buy, its still only $25 a carton(compared to $35-$40 for commercial), the only thing I would do with the FWK is dry hop with the appropriate hop during fermentation to freshen it up a little..

Sorry to interrupt, but just hoping someone could - in 25 words or less - give me a description of what exactly a "Fresh Wort Kit" is.

Are they made by Coopers and Blackrock and Muntons and so on? Or are they something else again?

You’re not interrupting at all mate that’s what this place is for..
A fresh wort kit is instead of a tin of beer concentrate (powered milk ) it is a 20 litter drum ( I think that’s the size ) of all grain brew.. so instead of having to spend 90 minutes sitting your grain in hot water and then 90 min boiling it then cooling it then fermenting it then keging or bottling it you just buy the drum already done and chuck it in your fermenter like u would a tin of crap and then put in your yeast and ferment it..
Sounds interesting I might have to give it a go just for shits and giggles

That link you put up is for a Very Good Drum of Unhopped Goop, its made the same sort of way as the FWK but is reduced down to a very thick syrup, it is made by 1 of the best suppliers of Grain around, Weyerman..

Sorry Doc I missed you Q
as I said above I have had something distracting me very badly for a wile now ..
Nothing this forum can help with unfortunately just one of thous things..
I bought 90g of Amarillo and then a few days latter i got the Saaz because it was on special ..
I’ve also go my eye on another few different types of hops as well ..
The yeast i got was Wyeast 1272 - All-American Ale liquid yeast which I farmed up to about 30 bottles..
In the next few days I’m going to be kegging this brew and see how it tastes thou I’m a bit pissy as I have not been able to get it under 25c .. I’ve got it sitting in a big bath of water which I change all the time but ive come home some days and caught it at 28c ..
Need to get another brew fridge I spoze.. But I man can only have so many fridges in the house before people start talking lol

All up including postage it was 60 bucks.. but Ross chucked in the 60 litter pot for the same postage which was very nice of him..
Going to knock up another batch shortly ..

The thing I like about FWK's is you can make a very consistent product (assuming you have clean proceedures and good yeast). The end result of some hefeweizens I have made using Wyeast 3068 has been far beyond my wildest expectations (considering how simple it is to mix: 1 FWK, 5 L water, yeast and let it sit for a week). I brew my own beer not so much for the price (although that is a factor) but for the flavour and I would take one hefeweizen kit over 2 cartons purchased beer anyday (even if the price was exactly the same).

The more I like the style, and I really do, I am disappointed by the relentlessly quick ageing process. I have had Franziskaner that is good and bad, but never great. I think I have to do an experiment that involves a flight to Germany.

I've personally been to two oktoberfests (2006 & 2007) and lived amongst the worlds best weizenbier's for over a year. I'm not much into franziskaner I have to admit as I just dont find the taste that stimulating... However; with the kits I have used I have made a very similar beer to the weizen's I drank over there. So far I found that temperature control is the most crucial aspect and I really liked the taste of the FWK and 3068 yeast brewed at a constant 21 degree's... However its up to you Dont forget that for a weizenbier the sediment must be mixed in. The standard method is to pour off 3/4 of the beer into the glass and then give the remainder a good swill and pour off a big head. I deliberately dont filter the beer and bottle it green (after about 7 days) at brewing temp to keep as much yeast suspended as possible. I found the hefe's only got better in the bottle and after about 3 weeks was the best flavour attainable -- It really shouldnt lose flavour?

Picked up a FWK at Mark's Home Brew in Islington (Newcastle) a couple of days ago. They were on sale ($30) so thought I may as well see what all the fuss is about.

Soaking the fermenter overnight, putting the FWK in tomorrow morning. HBS recommended Muntons Premium Gold yeast (which I have had mixed success with in the past) but I was happy in this instance to deign to a higher authority.

Apparently the FWK I have purchased is based on Thekstons Old Peculier. I had a quick google on this beer and it looks like deadset rocket fuel. Very full-bodied, and may come out somewhere in the vicinity of 7%. Maybe I should put half a litre of water in with it...??

Mind you I love a dark ale and winter is coming so it may be just what the doctor ordered.

Anything I need to take care to do (or avoid doing)? As I understand it I tip the whole drum into the fermenter, add the yeast and close her up.

Sounds easy.

Bloke at the HBS said it was already a standard brew size (21.5 litres) so extra water was unnecessary. It was reasonably heavy to carry but didn't feel like 20kg.

I just figured that I would add water if it was short.

Yes? No? Maybe?

these ones.. your maybe different?
