Overcarbonation is usually the cause. After opening the bottle, let it stand for 5-10 minutes before pouring, this usually helps to overcome the problem.
Prost and happy brewing!

Whenever I've had this problem its been when I bottled too early and fermentation wasn't finished. it also corresponded with exploding bottles.

What were your gravity readings?

i cant remember the gravity reading i know i had it in the fermenter for over two weeks and had stoped burping.
bottles havent explode as they are plastic but they have streched the bottles

have tryied the opening them and drink them later but need to be about 20 mins out in the open so gets warm which sucks

With plastic bottles, just unscrew and rescrew the caps. I've done this (usually a couple of times over the course of a few days) to a couple of brews that were overcarbonated.

If you are using an ale yeast 2 weeks is long enough, as long as it doesn't get too cold. If it gets below about 18 degrees, the brew can just stop. If you bottle it then it'll start up (in the bottle) once it warms up again.

If you're using a lager yeast it typically takes a few weeks (that's where i got my problem, my first lager, I couldn't believe it hadn't finished yet).

I wouldn't worry too much about the "burping" just go on the gravity readings - again depends on your fermentables but you should be looking for ~1010 FG (or lower, depending).

Cheers

You could always pour your beer into a wide mouth glass (like a goblet), that will help disperse the gas a little better and lead to less head during the pour. also wet the glass before you pour... Hopefully this will be your last overcarbed batch, but you still want to drink it....

The only time ive gotten too much head (hehe), was when i had an infection. What do the inside of your caps look like?
In my opinion, most of the great men of the past were
only there for the beer.
