Mash tun question

Post by modo »

Is it better to have the manifold slits face the bottom of the esky or the top. I have a 44lt with a copper manifold if that makes any difference.

I've changed mine around a bit and the only difference I've noticed is it is easier on your paddle if the slots are down.

Either way will work, but I face mine on the down side.
I think it reduces the dead space in my mash tun; at least, that's my personal experience.
Also, having them facing down, you should get less flour/grain residue finding its way into the manifold, and into your kettle, and hence reduce your chances of getting a stuck mash also.
