James Squire Kit Range

Post by Beer Krout »

Just getting an idea of what anyone thinks of the James Squire Kit Range.
I know Oliver brewed several of the range late last year. How did they turn out.

I've used Deep Roast, Summer Wheat and am brewing a Nut Brown.
Haven't had much luck with the first two.

Brewed the Deep Roast with kit yeast and to instructions. After 3 months in the bottle. I'm not really happy with it. None of my friends liked it either.

Brewed Summer Wheat with kit yeast (German wheat) and added 500ml of Honey and 20g of Hallertau (maybe shouldn't have). It's like a carbonatered orange drink with out the sugar.

My Nut Brown is brewing with White Labs Californian Ale and have added #72 Brown Ale, haven't bottled it yet.

I actually haven't made any. Geoff has, and swears by them.

I've heard varying reports though. Some people reckon they're great. Others reckon they're duds.

Cheers,

Oliver

Just did a Deep Roast Ale. Been in the bottle 1 week. Tried one last night. Not fully carbonated but am impressed so far. Looking forward to enjoying this brew as the days get colder.

reviews seem good on average except for the pale ale:

I'd suggest you contribute if you can :)

I assumne we are talking about Malt Shovel. I made a Summer Wheat Beer last Nov. I liked it, having never had wheat beer before. THey are now tasting a bit old.
Pale Ale was a disaster. Initially thought that it had a strong hop flavour, but after struggling to drink a few realise taht something went way wrong.
The Nut Brown was also good.
Would I buy them again?
No. Not for the money vs quantity you get.
