Well i think we can all agree that VB isn't the best beers going around! However some people argue that 'for what they pay for it, it really isn't that bad'. What are your thoughts on this. A lot of people argue that 'if you want a decent good beer you have to pay a lot more money for it'.
Having said that a 6er of CSA is only 15/16 bucks, compared to 6 Vics which are 13bucks. Thats not a big difference in price but certainly a big difference in quality!
Most of my mates say that they don't mind paying 13bucks for El cheapo Vics because they know what they are getting; an average aussie beer.
What do you think of these comments and do you think that VB, fosters, melbourne etc are over priced?

you do get what you pay for in most cases
if I am going to buy a commercial slab these days, I will fork out the extra money and buy a slab of James Squire or some other nice premium beer
but Coopers Pale Ale is a favourite and I guess we are spoilt in SA as I can normally pick up a slab of Pale Ale for around $35, bloody good value if you ask me

Corripe Cervisiam
Myself, I'd rather the decent beer every time. If it means I pay a bit more, or drink a bit less of it, then so be it.
I'm not sure what price I'd consider VB etc. worth. I wouldn't be buying it to drink it. Water the garden, maybe?

Learning from my mistakes...at this rate I'm going to be a genius.
If people are buying vb in six packs, or think that it is a chep beer - they need to do a little comparison shopping I think. $13 is $52 a carton - wooohaah - thats a bargain, another 2 or 3 cappucinos and you've got lcpa, $52-00 would buy a case of most premiums at retail and with change.
cheap beer ( as i remember it) is $25 a case -resches real and that sort of stuff. the bottom dwelling beers in europe are all malt, so in large scale production , the sugar might save them as much as $1.50 per carton - $2.00 tops (based on $4-00 a kilo).
People like tasteles stuff with alcohol in it serve at -2, as a result well made beer can be sold for a much higher price - check the annual report for fosters for how they wax lyrical about the contribution to profit from he premium beer segment. 50% of a case is tax I think.

when I was in NZ last you could get VB (not that you'd want it) cheaper there than you can get it here!!!!
When they switched to GST they took off all other taxes and just applied flat rate GST, no bloody WET tax etc like we have!

new zealand has some bloody rippers for pretty good price. Montieths, about 1 buck more than VB, for well over 10 times enjoyment factor.
if i wasn't brewing so much, i would go back and get more.
Since we're bagging VB, i think i saw a slab going for around $80 aus while i was in england a while ago. That gave me a good chuckle. That would be a nasty surprise when they got home.

hehe, if I'm desperate and low on cash I just by less of the good stuff. Eg. a 6er instead of a slab or a longneck instead of a 6er. One long neck of coopers is worth a lifetime supply of VB.ex0ja wrote:I won't get it unless I'm desperate. But when you're really low on cash sometimes you have to settle for the ol' VB even if it is only a few dollars. VB should probably be cheaper for what you get though.

time to find a new bottle shop! the drive through near me is $9 for a sixer of coopers pale. most expensive i go is the rare sixer of goat, squires, LCPA etc for about $17.Kippo wrote: Having said that a 6er of CSA is only 15/16 bucks, compared to 6 Vics which are 13bucks. Here in good ol' SA we can get 6 packs of southwark bitter for 8 dollars,6 packs of west end draught for 10 dollars and coopers pale ale for $10.50 a 6 pack.Cartons of 30 or slabs are going for $33.50-westend of course, and vomit beer(vb) for $36 a 30 slab.Ive seen coopers red label going for 37 bucks on special at the local BWS store, which is good for a premium beer.
