Stilling Spirits Section??

Hey guys.. as i am getting further into my alcohol production i have begun brewing washes and stilling spirit alcohol.

Now the basic form of spirits alcohol is very similar to beer making, the wort is called a wash but fermented in a very similar concept. Obviously the wash is then put through the still and you end up with only alcohol that is flavoured. The difference for the novice is usage of flavours instead of making the wash like beer using grain ect and carrying flavours across into the spirit and making a genuine spirit.

I was hoping that this forum may include a section dedicated to spirits.

Only a suggestion.. but i think this would help a) me, b) anyone else that may be interested in this form of production.

Hey Stangas,

You'd have to be a bit cautious, it is illegal to distill alcohol in Australia, the best we can hope to discuss would be the 20% washes made from 9kg dextrose, water and turbo yeast.

Or distilling "essential oils"! (which is legal)

I would be interested, if I could at all afford both the still setup and the flavouring ingredients. Sadly my budget would not really stretch beyond turbo yeast, dextrose and a couple of carbon filters.

Spirits is interesting, wine is legal.

Since Tahbilk Estate's decision to stop making bulk red wine, I've been commissioned by the family to start winemaking. Therefore I'd appreciate a forum on the topic. Anyone else into this?
