Hi everyone I,am looking for a recipe to put in black beer and I would like a licorice tast.but only very slight. can anyone help.

G'day Bobby.

I get a nice licorice-ish flavour from molasses. I was in Coles getting some bread the other day and saw some in the health food section. That, or treacle should give you the flavour you are looking for but don't over do it. 250-300 grams I think would be enough. You can always up it next time if you want more.

licorice root? star anise?
I have licorice root ready to go into a stout for next winter that I hope to brew shortly, very keen to see how it goes.

Hi all, when using molasses make sure it's the "backstrap" type (will tell you on the jar).
For a good licorice/aniseed taste stir in 50ml of Galliano prior to adding the yeast, yum :D . Best in dark ale/stout.
