Good Beer Week, Melbourne

Postby Oliver » Thursday Apr 26, 2012 7:49 pm

I'll be attending a few Good Beer Week events here in Melbourne next month.

One of those is the Raconteur Reloaded, which is at one of my locals, the Royal Standard in West Melbourne on Monday, May 14, from 6.30pm.

There will be six versions of Prickly Moses' Raconteur American IPA on tap. All will have the same base malts and there will be one with the usual hop bill, and single-hop versions made with Simcoe, Citra, Bramling X, Galaxy or Riwaka.

Unsurprisingly it's being billed as an event for hop heads.

Raconteur was my pick of the beers at a recent Microbrewery Showcase so it should be a good night.

$15 entry includes a pot of the original Raconteur and canapes.

See http://www.royalstandardhotel.com.au. Bookings recommended.

Anyone else doing anything for GBW?

Cheers,

Oliver

The beer spectapular. I would love to hit this one. 60 brews made specially for the occasion, and some mighty interesting-sounding ones too.... But it is one bloody mother's day weekend, which won't work for me at all.

Meh. SWMBO was pushing to get me to go to that. $40 entry then you gotta buy the tasters. Unless you're particularly interested in the NZ breweries - you'd probably be better off just going to the breweries you're interested in when you can.

Yeah, $40 plus drinks might be a bit of a push....

I am heading down to Melbourne on the 18th. I know this is near the end of GBW, but does anyone have any recommendations for events on the 18th or 19th? Unfortunately the Raconteur Reloaded event is earlier in the week so wont be able to go to that one.

I'm also going to:
* The Beer Spectapular on Sunday (got half-price tickets because work is a sponsor :-) ).
* Sweet Sensations on Tuesday.
* "Roadkill" Spit Roast Goat with Mountain Goat Rare Breed Beer on Wednesday.

I also like the look of Good Beer O'Clock on Friday but I'm not sure if I'll make it.

Might catch some of you during the week!

Cheers,

Oliver

How do you get work to pay for you to drink beer Oliver?

Actually the beer spectapular looks good. Shame I wont be in town then as I will be staying about 100m from the exhibition buildings.

Might see if I can check out the beer o'clock event on Friday.

Unfortunately it was only cheap entry. The beer was still full price. Had a good time at the Spectapular, but was a little dusty on Monday.

If anyone is in the vicinity, the Royal Standard in West Melbourne still has some of the IPAs from Raconteur Reloaded on tap. I was there last night and had one made with Citra and another with Riwaka.

I will be in Melbourne tomorrow afternoon, walking up to a mates place near Carlton gardens from Spencer street. Might have to make a detour.

Would you believe it's literally on the way! From Spencer St head to the Royal Standard, then just continue on and walk up Victoria St or Queensberry St to Carlton Gardens, or wherever it is you need to go.

I'm sure you can work out the route for yourself but PM me if you want any details.

Cheers,

Oliver
