Why is it that when I put a recipe into my brew mate its different to the ones that are posted on here? I tried to put Earle's Stone and wood clone into my brew mate but my EBC and IBU calculations came out totally different to what he posted?

Can anybody tell me why this is? Am I putting it in wrong or is there a setting that I haven't set correctly?

Brewmate has default EBC for grain and AA % for hops. I change my AA % for hops regularly to suit the stated AA for what I have in stock. I don't change EBC as I don't see the need. Check your own AA % against what brewmate says, and the posted recipe, and go from there.

I have been changing them but it still doesn't add up. Not sure what I'm doing wrong.

Can you copy and paste the recipe you are referring too? And post yours as well.

Earles recipe is using beersmith which is different to what you are using. The only other thing is the volumes. If you match your AA% with Earles, and set your batch volume to 23 ltr, like Earle, you should be pretty damn close.

I think I found your problem. Look closely at earles recipe. He has liquid malt extract listed instead of grain, your liquid malt is listed as grain. These will have different EBC units. You should be able to change that in brewmate and it will have it's own default EBC for liquid extract. Match that to Earle's if you like and see what happens.

Is changing that going to have an effect on my ibu calculations because that's what I am more interested in. Mine comes out at 13 without no chill and earles comes out at 20 with the same hop bill?
