Set up our first run today.
Started off great but went downhill pretty quick! The methanol and first few mls of ethanol we collected were clear and smelled right, but then we had some problems with keeping the temperature stable and everything from then on came out cloudy or yellow, and only went more yellow when we put it aside.
Pretty much looks like pee!
We are using a copper reflux still head on a 50L keg boiler. Our original wash was about 25L - 8kg sugar, 1 sachet still spirits turbo yeast.
We're going to water it down and run it through again tomorrow and see if it clears up.
To me it looks and smells like stuff from the wash ended up in the distillate.
Can anybody offer any hints or tips for when we do this a second time? Very grateful for any advice - you've all got more experience than I do!
