Re: Pilsner Urquell
Hygrometer reading got down to 1.004--according to Beersmith that should give me an ABV of 4.68%--have just added in the primer and will now begin to bottle in a few minutes.

Re: Damn You All
Forgot to mention how lucky we were to get to the local a little late. Darren Lehman was there earlier giving away XXXX Gold as a promo--unfortunately he was gone by the time we arrived
Did have a couple of Tooheys Old while the son had a couple of Bundy and cokes (on tap).

Re: Chimay Blue
Hate to sound like a fool, but last night my son bought 1 bottle of Chimay Blue, 1 bottle of Chimay White and a 6 pack of Schofferhofer Hefeweizen. After having a taste, I will still be limiting myself to the Schofferhofer Hefeweizen. The Chimays just didn't do it for me (sorry).

Re: James Squire Amber ale
Please excuse my ignorance but I am new to the home brewing caper--have done a few kits bought from supermarket, but want to experiment a little bit. Our local homebrew shop sells hops in two ways--finishing hops in a 12g 'tea bag' or 60g pellets--which way would you suggest I go.

Re: Pilsner Urquell
Well 2 days after doing the brew it started bubbling away nicely for another 2 days, but now there is no activity in the airlock at all--is this normal or should I be worried?

Damn You All
As a consequence of what I have read on these forums over the last few days I decided to go and buy 6 packs of Pilsner Urquell and Schofferhofer Hefeweizen with a view of taste testing them last night when my son got home from work. We tried the Pilsner Urquell first, and came to the conclusion that ...

Re: Chimay Blue
Yeah at nearly 8 bucks a pop I wasn't gonna drink it from my shitty $2 beer glasses
Was in our local Dan Murphys this morning--only had one Chimay Blue bottle left @ $15. Wife would kill me if she found out I had spent that much on a beer, so I bought a 6 pack of Schofferhofer Hefeweizen and a 6 ...

Re: Pilsner Urquell
Sounds ok to me. Once the beer starts fermenting the temperature may actually rise rather than fall as it generates heat.
Boil the 13g of saaz with the LDME and the liquid from steeping the carapil for 15/20 mins.
2 week ferment, rack and then put in a fridge an keep it at 1-2C for a few weeks ...

Re: Pilsner Urquell
Well the shop I went to didn't have the brewblend so have made a few adjustments.
Muntons Export Pilsner
1kg LDME
Flavour Plus Pack--Pilsner (Made up of 220g Carapils/caramalt, & 13g Saaz hops)
Saflager yeast
Temp shouldn't be too much a problem--stopping it going below 10 may be harder--nights ...

Was given a can of Coopers Real Ale and Coopers Mexican Cerveza and wondering if it might be getting a bit cold to brew now. Did a Coopers European Lager which has now been bottled for about 4 months but still needs more time (tastes OK but is still a little 'flat'

Re: Jokes anyone???
Nick was a salesman's delight when it came to any kind of unusual gimmick. His wife Marsha had long ago given up trying to get him to change. One day Nick came home with another one of his unusual purchases. It was a robot that Nick claimed was actually a lie detector.

Re: James Squire Amber ale
I used a can of Morgans amber ale,
1KG of malt,
Recipe called for safale yeast but I used the one in the kit.
Fuggles hops soked for 10 min.
Its fermenting at about 24-26degrees here in the study. it slowed up for a couple of days as the nights cooled off a bit but it fermenting at a steady rate ...
