i know how frustrating it can be when there is no bubbling, but hey, is calming down now, and maybe there is a slight leek, so just relax.

Next time just tr to keep it a little cooler, like around 20 and you'll have days of airlock fun!

One bad one so far...

Hi guys, i just had a homebrew and it had the distinct taste and smell of clove. Now i'm going to presume that this is an infection... as the taste was off and the carbonation was really low.

Now.. the problem is that it seems to be only this bottle as it is like my 6th of the batch, and i had ...

aidan, i'd say its going to be ready really soon, but why not let it sit for a little while, besides the aging will make it taste better, something that needs to be done in the bottle, so there is simply no harm in leaving the fermenter... or racking if you feel up to it... for a while.

yeah, an extra 1l is roughly 4%, so in reality your beer is just going to be 4% worse... which is almost nothing!

So really, it wont make much of a difference at all except you can now classify it as a light beer and drink more!

How Bitter will this be?

Hi, i know this is nice and bitter, but i was just wondering if anyone could calculate the IBU's for me...

The kit was 25 IBU to start, and a boild of the kit and malt was done for 60 minutes in about 7L for 60 minutes.

The hop additions were
5gm Amarillo @ 60
12gm Amarillo @ 30
10gm Amarillo @ 20 ...

Rice... thats going to be your key ingredient in the beer, for kirin expecially. Now kirin is quite a sweet beer with a faint bitterness, and as far as i remember little hop aroma/flavour. So i'm going to presume your going for a kit so my suggestion would be:

Go a canadian Kit i think, maybe ...

Yeah, i boiled my first two cans, and it does boil away some of the flavours and aromas. However, that being said, it gives you a cleaner slate to work with if you decide to add your own hops without having to worry about bitterness, as they will already be present.

I know differnet people on this ...

And just to rub it in, 1012 is done i say! If you are unsure, just deliberatley under prime, so that it can naturally carbonate!

use the safale! its a much much better yeast than either the brigalow or the one which comes from the can which is a $2 cheapie anyway.

The Safale east will give you a more lager flavour if you cna keep the temp down to about 18, so maybe ty cooling the fermenter down a little. If not, sit back ...

Current Gravity After 5 days is 1042!

This is just out of curiosity, as i just did a hydro reading for my current two beers, after they have been in the fermenters with yeast for 5 days now. My munich Helles gravity has dropped to 1027, which seems pretty normal :D , but...

my Rice Pilsner gravity is at 1042!

Does that seem ...

ESB Kits

i recently picked up a ESB 3kg bavarian lager and an ESB 3kg Czech Pilsner, and i was just wondering how hopped they are? would they be on par with normal kits (like coopers/morgans) or have they got a bit more oomph in them?

i like 'em hoppy!

Cheers

Rice and you...

Hi,

i'm having great difficulty trying to figure out how to create a tsingtao/chinese beer... and i keep coming back to the idea of RICE! (well i've got some rice malt extract from coles but close enough). I've been thinking a pilsner just with the rice added, using a great ESB 3kg kit i picked up ...
