Since Newcastle Brown Ale was added in 2001, Scottish & Newcastle Breweries has been acquired by Heineken. In 2005, before the takeover, brewing was moved from Newcastle upon Tyne to Dunston on the other side of the River Tyne, and in 2010 - after the 2008 acquisition by Heineken - moved entirely to Tadcaster in North Yorkshire.
