Crystal was bred as an American-grown substitute for Hallertau Mittelfruh, as were Liberty and Mt Hood. Crystal is regarded as the best of the three. It is also similar to Hersbrucker and Strisslespalt. Its flavour is more spicy than floral. Used in ales and lagers.
