Hi all just putting together a recipe based on a Morgans one I've seen just wanted some feedback on what you think it will be like ?
It's called Royal Oak Hogshead Ale,
1.7kg Morgans Royal Oak Amber Ale Kit
1.0 Chocolate Malt Master Blend
10g Saaz Hops
1 Morgans Ale Yeast
I was thinking some Fuggles instead of Saaz and Safale yeast instead of the Morgans what do you think ?
or was going to do a Becks brew,
Black Rock Pilsener Kit
1.5kg Black Rock Liquid Light Malt
25g Hallertau
15g Saaz
Saflager Yeast
the only thing is I don't really have any temp control so I'd be brewing at approx.20-22c temps how will this go ???
Should I stick to the Ale.
All feedback appreciated.
Recipe thoughts ?
Re: Recipe thoughts ?
For the first beer i agree, use Fuggles and Safale S-04.
If you cant brew at lager temps (8-12C) then don't bother spending the money on lager yeasts. Stick with ales until you can get down to the mid to low teens at the very least when you can make faux lagers using the nottingham yeast.

Re: Recipe thoughts ?
Cheers I suspected as much appreciate the feedback, has anyone used the Choc Malt Blend what's it like, I've only used Amber Malt Blend ?
Re: Recipe thoughts ?
The choc malt must be near its use-by date. They stopped making it a while back, pity. Its quite sweet becuase its supposed to also have lots of munich in it. I think you need to add a hop boil otherwise it your brew will be too sweet.
Re: Recipe thoughts ?
G'day yep they stopped making the Choc Malt so added Caramalt Master Blend instead also some Fuggles hops and Safale yeast boiled the 2 kits with the hops for about 15mins then let rest for 15mins it smelt ok, I'll see how this goes looking forward to it.
