Beersmith - using prehopped kits

Hi all,

I just bought myself a copy of Beersmith and have been playing around with a couple of recipes. I notice that you need to pre-configure stuff like the prehopped extracts. Has anyone already done this for the locally available kits? I tried entering the Coopers Real Ale last night but you need to enter equivalent hops instead of simply plugging in the IBU's of the kit. If someone else has already configured them, would they be kind enough to export them and upload the BSM file for others?

Cheers,

Tim

Hi Tim

I have entered kits into my beersmith but find it just a starting point. For each malt there's a tick box labelled 'add after boil', I have this unticked to help me work out hop utilisation and boils etc. The problem with this is that it means you can add a kit to a recipe, then when you add some other malt it changes the utilisation of you kit and the IBU. I find I have to fiddle the hops of the kit every time. Here's what I do with the kits already entered.

1. Add the kit to recipe.
2. Add all my malts. These will cause the calculated IBU of the recipe to decrease.
3. Adjust the hopping of the kit to get it back to what it should be.
4. Add my hops
5. Do a small boil at the same gravity as the whole brew.

Hope this helps
