Cleaning yeast

‘Ok yes I’ve read the sticky ...
I’ve also visited many other sites..
Checked out YouTube the whole lot ..

BUT !! I just want to clarify just to triple check..
I take my slurry that’s left over from my AG mix it with some filtered water..
Place it in bottles, Soft drink, and then let it settle and pour the water that’s sitting on top down the drain correct?

Then fill it with filtered water and shake it up then let it settle and pour all the water off the top again and keep doing that over and over till you happy its nice and clean..

That all sound right ?? :roll:

Once you have racked the beer of the yeast cake/trub you add cooled, boiled water not just filtered water.

Pour the mix into a bottle and let it settle for ~5 mins.

The milky layer on top is the yeast, the chunky solid mass on the bottom is left over cold break, proteins etc.

So pour the milky looking layer off and that is your yeast.

You can then chill this down until it settles to the bottom and then pour the water layer off and add more cooled, boiled water.

Depending on how long before you plan to re-pitch the yeast you dont NEED to wash it. If i plan on storing it for a few months then i wash it at least 3 times.
