Coopers Pale Ale Question ?

Hi I just laid down a coopers pale ale brew,

I used the Coopers Pale Ale , BE2 , 500g LDM, 12g Hallertau boiled at 10 mins.

Everyting looks ok except when mixing the BE2 & LDM in the wort with the hot water I noticed lumps I tried to dissolve everything
but I think upon adding the Pale Ale mix & the rest of the water there may still have been lumps in the mix I then added the hops bag and coopers yeast and sealed the wort lid, I also stupidly sealed the lid but not tight enough consequently there was no bubbling as some air was escaping through the lid will this have any affects or will it all brew up and ferment ok ?

Sorry me worrying again.....

The lumps are most likely from the LDME.
As I brew AG, I only use the stuff for culturing liquid yeasts, but my foolproof method for dissolving it is to fill you pot with cold water, add the LDME, and then bring on the heat. I think you'll find it dissolves easily that way without lumps.

Anyway, don't worry about a few residual limps, your yeasts are hungry little fungi, and they'll eat into it and convert it to alcohol.

Also, don't worry about a hermatic seal on your fermenter. Once fermentation is underway, your brew produces CO­² which displaces any oxygen. I don't use an airlock, I cover my fermenter with Gladwrap, and use the rubber seal from the lid to hold it in place. You get to see what goes on doing that!

Warra thanks again for your knowledge and help, most appreciated.

Does this mix or recipe seem ok, wasn't sure whether to use the Coopers yeast or get some Safale also
was going to use Cascade hops but used Hallertau instead for someting different.

I'd go for the cascade but that's just personal preference.

I would up the bitterness on your recipe. The Aust Pale Ale can will come out to about 19IBU with the can alone in 23L. Your added malt (approx 750g because there's some in the BE2) will effectively lower the perceived bitterness because it adds sweetness.

I did a similar brew a couple of years ago without extra hops and it was too sweet. I ended up using it to blend with another brew that was too bitter.

oh - and you should be OK with the Coopers yeast on this. If you're going for cascade, you might want to try US-05.

Cheers I'll let you know how it tastes, would 24g been better for the hops ?

and add your own urine??? :wink:

Dry hop with either, depending on what you're trying to achieve. I'd boil that POR for a while to get a bit more bitterness because the can isn't very bitter. I'd nearly be tempted to use 2 cans of Pale Ale instead of the extra malt.
