How does your garden grow?

My Chinook hops are really taking off now after a pretty slow start. Even so I'd have thought that they'd have flowers by now, anyone seeing a healthy crop so far or is it still too early?

My PoR is going a bit mental at the moment, but alas, no hops yet. Hopefully we'll get a bit of heat down here over jan-feb that will encourage the little buggers to do their thing...

My cluster, which was the last one I bought, is BALLISTIC!! has flowers and already at the top of the 4.2m trellis. Chinook and goldings are alive, which is relieving, there were many months of lost hope. Hersbruker and POR are going really well, the Hers has huge laterals, which is interesting.
I keep forgetting to trim the <1m area of the vines, and will do this when I see them next, and see if there is any material there for making cuttings.
I am really looking forward to harvest ales.

My setup is 3 star posts 2.5 meters apart with wires running along at 4 feet tall and then 5 feet. I have 3 strands of twine running up to the top wire from the the ground at the middle star post and so far only one bine has reached the top (each strand of twine has two bines growing collectively). The others are coming along quickly though so I expect the whole frame to be covered by February. Anyone else have a semi-horizontal setup?

Yep, mine's horizontal. Training the new growth is a minor nuisance, but otherwise it seems to work okay.

Hahaha yes I've also noticed that over the last couple of days, it seems that every time I turn my back the bine is pointing skyward again!

My Cascade plant is going great at the moment. It's grown about a metre in a month or so. I've got 2 bines and was intending to run them up the fence (2.4m) and then horizontal around a string.
Cheers,

Good to hear the horizontal growing works for you guys, my Chinook slowed as it got to the top wire so I got a little worried... all rosy now!
I'm more a gardener than a brewer at the moment (getting right into the brewing now though!) so I tend to get more excited about the growth of the Chinook and the possibility of acquiring POR and Cascade rhizomes next winter, both of which I'll put to good use.
