At the moment I am bottling using the PET bottles that came with my fermenter, and before I go about collecting glass bottles I was wondering if the twist-tops glass bottles are OK for bottling? Also, are there any tips for using glass bottles that don't apply to the PET bottles?

twist top bottles are fine for bottling,although it helps a great deal if you have a decent bench capper. There's heaps of info about that on this forum..

I use them all the time.
The glass in them is a little thinner than in the roll top bottles.
I wouldn't use a hand capper on them, to save yourself breakages.
I strongly suggest you get yourself a bench capper such as a Superautomatica.

I suggest trying to get your hands on the heavy coopers + other (usually 500ml) heavy bottles available. They are much darker, and HEAPS stronger.

I dropped a coopers bottle down a flight of concrete stairs and it just bounced... whenever I wash the twisties, I get nervous, they are like handling lightbulbs in comparison.

I love the weihenstephaner bottles - I think they are a generic manufaturer - other beers use seemingly identical ones.

I agree with the Weihenstephan bottles... excellent size and sturdy...

It took me a while to collect enough, but now i have about 12 cartons worth.... bought most of them from the liquor store..

I also have about 15 cartons worth of VB 800ml longnecks.. they are good too...

I have many randoms.. the benefit of the twisties is that I am far happier to give them away or take them out... I get a little prescious with the heavy duty roll-tops.

Another thing on twist-tops - make sure you get the right caps for them as not all caps are able to be twisted off. The new Coopers ones (with the Coopers Homebrew logo on them) and the Brewiser ones (from Big W) are able to be opened by hand....
