Hey guys after a bit of help ive just started brewing and used a coopers lager kit and so now im after something a bit better, im a fan of kilkenny and found at my local brew store (westbrew in perth=brilliant) a can of MUNTONS MT MELLICK CREAM ALE its a 1.8kg can. What would be better brewing with the ready made can or buying the specific hops and yeasts etc. i am new to brewing so im undecided ?
Also with the can would i need to buy enhancers, finnings and stuff?
Thanks in advance for help
Sean.

Hi Sean,
The Muntons cans are apparently better than the Coopers ones but there's only so far you can get with just a kit. Some brewshops sell kits to replicate certain beers including extra hops, grains etc so if you can find one of these for Kilkenny you will be well on your way.
Cheers,
Tim

Sean... you will soon learn that westbrew isnt too flash at all... and heavily overpriced...
but i guess thats where i started...
Ultimately the best beer you can make is with fresh ingredients like grain fresh hops and liquid yeasts.. but until then, cans are the way to go, especially if you are starting up, just so you can find your feet with respect to keeping things sterile and getting the basics under your belt..
I find with cans, muntons are good, but you do pay the extra for them..
I think for you, if you wanted to buy that muntons cream ale, i would get the stout enhancer that westbrew also sells to use instead of adding 1kg of sugar.
Or as timmy says get the kilkenny kits that westbrew sells (but they are rather expensive).
where abouts are you in Perth?

With regards to finnings, don't bother, it won't make your brew taste any better, just look better, and really, who cares if it's a little cloudy unless you're entering a comp. But, if you do want to use it don't buy it, you can have my bottle which is 99% full. I gave up bothering. If you use a good yeast the beer should settle out and leave it nice and clear anyway. I'm enjoying a nice bitter as we speak and it's cloudy as all f**k, but it's damn tasty, especially when you just put the little one to sleep and get to enjoy it in peace and quietAlso with the can would i need to buy enhancers, finnings and stuff?

Thats it, you people have stood in my way long enough, I'm going to clown college

cheers for the help guys i probably wont bother with the finings then, with the enhancer do i use it instead of the dextrose i plan to use or as an additive? I live in west perth so westbrew was the closest but i got my kit from k-mart and would only go there for the coppers stuff. Don't really wanna buy off the internet because it can be dodgy, u guys know a good place?
Thanks
sean
