I was browsing the Monteiths site and noticed they quote perceived bitterness units rather than IBU. I've done some searches of the forum but can't find anything. Does anyone know how to calculate perceived bitterness units?

There's some interesting information on bitterness and other beery stuff here:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Beer_measu ... bitterness
As for "perceived bitterness units", if you do a Google search for that phrase the only reference is this thread
Cheers,
Oliver

I don't know how you could calculate perceived anything.

I guess if you had enough people test it and give an approximation of how bitter they thought it was on a standardised scale then averaged the results then that average might not be completely useless. Obviously it isn't completely scientific but the word "perceived" is in its name so that should be warning enough.

Seriously? Bloody hell, man. You can't smell these things in wine...and beer for that matter?
