hops
so Im growing hops this year(its spring time in my neck of the woods),I have cascade, nugget, sterling, and kent goldings, the goldings is the only one Ive played with of the four,so whats your oppinions on these?also woundering about alpha acids. I know they will change due to soil and sesion, but will those with high alpha stay some what high, and vise versa,or will they all end up close to same? cant wait till next spring so I can get more strands,I stuck with only the one that are disease resistant and high yeald for first year..oh yea..hi all, good site..
beer me.
Re: hops
You won't get a high yield in your first season (or rather, it's less likely). The plant is putting a lot of effort into building up its root system.
I too have only grown Goldings, and I've only had it for one season, so no yields to speak of yet.
The varieties that are high AA should be higher than the others, just that you won't really know what they are until you test some in a brew.

Re: hops
as a gardener,I understand it will spend most its energy on making roots first year, was talking about high yeald strands my first year of growing. I think they will do great,we have been gardening for ten years, our conpost pile is bigger than most peoples cars
..plus all the cow dung we bring in..there is no point in having a garden if you put chemicals in it..mostly wanting opinions on the srands, reading about how they smell is one thing, hearing about how they make a beer tast is what Im after..still kicking myself for not getting Mt.Hood, but hey..next year, and the spot they will go is being preped already..gota love the smell of a compost pile in the morning..tasting the world via my ferminter...thnx.

beer me.
