Just thought i'd post a pic of my latest brew, I think I copied off here, it was just a Tin of Coopers Stout and a tin of Coopers Dark Ale.

Finally worked it out, only took forever..

Haha nice funky looking krausen there.

I did the same for my last brew but added 500grms LDME, 200grms Dark Brown Sugar & 200grms Cocoa powder...

Do you know how that will come out?

I thought just what I put in was strong enough and dark, probably would mellow it out a little hey?

Reading through here people said the use of both kits made it quite bitter so I gathered the additional malt & sugars should balance it out????

Definitely sounds like a step in the right direction. I made a twocan with Cascade Choc Mahogany porter and coopers dark ale. Did it as an experiment as I couldn't get malt extract at the time. IBU was about 50 or 60, and so I have an overly bitter beer with little body. Not undrinkable but not that enjoyable. Perhaps they put a bit more guts in the stout to help balance the bitterness, but it also has a higher IBU.

I think I'll try mixing it with another beer when I drink it. I've gotta say that since I've started using hops properly (not just a teabag steep) and spec grains, and taking a bit more consideration about what I put in a brew, I'm happy with every brew that I've made. Unfortunately I still have several cartons made from randomly mixed kits and liquid malt that don't seem to quite cut in anymore. But if I mix them with my twocan porter you never know. All in the name of science of course.

Tasted a sample of mine last night... It's gonna be good.

Was kind of like drinking a Toohey's Old while eating a small piece of bitter dark chocolate.

I disagree it's gonna be good.
I think once you bottle it, you should crate it up, and send half to Earle, and half to Boonie, just to save you tipping it all down the sink.

i, on the other hand, think he should just put it in a keg, and send it to me. less work that way, compared to bottling. i'll even take care of the keg.

I'll just pass it through my kidneys first then rebottle and send for all to enjoy....

Ooohhh, I'm sorry, I'm truly sorry, definitely it should be crated into 3 crates, and Keg added to the list of recipients.
Or, to make it even easier, just do as Keg said (with apologies to the others). You will notice my totally selfless attitude, in that I've not nominated myself as a beneficiary (see, as a retired legal type guy, I know all those fancy words).

I assume you'll refrigerate it first before filtering it through your kidneys. Hmmmm, this must be that Chill Filtering that you read about on bottles of megaswill. That's how they get it to taste that way

Well I couldn't wait and tried one of mine after just 1 week in the bottle. (Recipe as per above posts)



Very nice... Smooth and silky, not overly bitter (I think the additionals balanced this well). Good head for only 1 week but did disipate quite quickly (I think it may have been the glass though)

As far as the Choc goes, not there when first tasted but lingers with the aftertaste.

It's got some kick too.. You can smell the fumes in the empty glass...

Good after dinner desert stout..

Had one of these again tonight and it's making my head numb.... I like it!!!!

Cracked one of these beers yesterday, has only been in bottle 2 weeks, probably needs another week to carb up, but geez it was one of the bitterest beers ive drunk, definetly not a session beer....
