Quite a few pubs offer menus with specials for most nights.
Was at the pub at crown on Weds night and had the special of $15 for the porterhouse and a pot of local beer.

Well I asked for a pot of Stella. Well I was told it wasn't a local beer. I simply responded that its made in the Melbourne suburbs by the same mob that makes Carlton draught so how isn't it local? Was then told all overseas labled beer was imported. Manager came over and said Stella is an overseas brand and all their beer was imported hence the prices....

LOL Keg after keg flown over I take it...

I know at this point I was pushing it but hey it was interesting to see what they had to say.

Nearly double price for a pot of beer made right here in Melbourne..

Maybe they should change the wording from 'local' to Australian branded to stop pricks like me giving them a hard time.

I really do hope you pointed out that the beer is NOT imported!

They could probably get in a bit of trouble for misrepresenting the products they are selling.

yup sure did but they wouldn't budge. Seems the casino can't offer us beer at a decent price as they are already doing it tough

I didn't bring up the Hoegaarden as that is actually imported keg and all isn't it?? Didn't want to kick up a stink and be wrong.

And yeah I take local beer as locally brewed, hence the argument that I should get stella with my steak.

And quite a few pubs use that wording with dinner speicals.

yeah a decent amount there and read it before.

Wonder what they actually make the pubs pay for 'imported' though. On happy hours and these dinner specials I've pointed out they put 'local' beer only.

I sure don't want my local pub make a loss and suport them but local should mean local. Now we have gone from discussing the word import and what it means to local and what that implies

Local implies cane sugar and less hops...

I'd have stuck it to them. But maybe that's just me...
