After a trip to a tea-house in Singapore I found myself enjoying green tea, I also enjoy beer, so I decided to combine the two but because I had expensive stuff from Singapore and not knowing how the end result would be I only added one cup of tea to a 20L lager. Hindsight being 20/20 I should have realised that one cup (not a cup of leaves, a cup of liquid) would have done squat, but I was reluctant to part with expenso leaves for unknown gain. Now however I have gone and got some half cheapo/half descent loose leaf stuff from the super market so I don't mind how much of the stuff I use, I was just wanting some suggestions on how to go about it. I think a lager would be the best sort to add them to (even though I prefer ales) and I was just wondering, should I just boil them up as though I am making a cuppa and then dump this in to the wort, or should I also boil some for a while as they get a bitter quality about them if left too long, and this would mean I would not need hops. Also how many litres should I put in to get a flavour, I am not trying to make alcoholic green tea, but a beer with a slight hint of green tea. Any comments?

I'd just make a strong brew of tea, and strain it into your fermenter before adding the other stuff. Don't over-brew it. G'luck.

Yeah. It's a tough call. Even though you love green tea AND you love beer, mixing them together may not create double happiness.

What I'd do is test it first. Buy a couple of beers like the beer you want to brew and mix them with different ratios of green tea. See which ratio works best, and, using that ratio, calculate how much green tea you will need for a 20 litre batch.

I didn't think you couild mix the two. Thought it was like oil and water, cat and dog, ying and yang, Venus and Mars.

I am thinking this is like a sign of the appocolypse.

You could take your favourite brew anywhere without being noticed!! Just joggle away in chilled water and hey presto, instant beer

Hmm my sister got some 'cream tea' tea leaves from some tea shop a while ago.. I reckon they would go well in some beer.
Being a student tho I'm too cheap to buy a box of the leaves to test it out
