Just recieved my new mash tun from the US today along with a few other bits and pieces, as soon as it got here i drilled a hole in it and put in a weldless bi metal thermo ( courtesy of Ross ) then drilled a hole in the new ally 80 litre pot and whacked in a weldless ball valve so its all now ready to use and will be getting used this weekend for a double batch APA.

Can you all see the grin on my face from where you are

That's some mighty fine kit there Leigh!

Did everything come pre-fitted or did you do the work yourself?

The mash tun had everything fitted apart from the thermo which i got from Ross and fitted myself, i fitted the ball valve to the 80 litre pot and the old mash tun ( old tun never had a tap just a rubber bung with copper manifold and a plastic tap connected with some tubing) as far as the fridges go i did all the work to them myself which wasnt to difficult but i can tell you my ass was puckering when i was drilling holes in the new pot and tun

I'm trying veerryy hard to get the vision of puckering out of my head.

That's some lovely looking gear you have there. :D :P

Well done. :!:

Ah yeah. Thanks for that very disturbing visual...

But I understand the sentiment. I get drilled by a professional... that didn't sound so good. I get my holes drilled by a professional...

Ok. I get holes in my stainless kit drilled by a professional s/s driller so that if they screw it up, they can replace it! There we go.

I installed an electric kettle element in my Pilot Plant kettle using the cheap holesaw I had on hand. It turned out wonderfully, but the fact that it was a cheap stockpot helped - it was nice and thin and if I bolloxed it up, I was only down $20. I'm contemplating doing it for my FBigBoiler, which will be a different matter again - ie: I will be a tad more careful...

What's the difference between the Big Green mash-tun and the Big Orange one?

My guess, one is made in China then sent to Australia, the other is made in China then sent to the US and then to Australia ;)

No actually im not sure about all that kev but it was as simple as the fact that i finally convinced myself to do double batches and the new tun is 10 gallon wheras the old one is only 5 and also had no falsie or anything in it so i thought i would treat myself

Well got all the new toys in action in the shed, the mash tun went great and i just started the boil, was also quite surprised at how quick the 4 ring got 50+ litres off and running it didnt really take that much longer than when i boil a single batch, anyway im back out to the shed now so ill let you know how i went for efficiency etc later on

Good luck with the brew today.

OT, how did you manage to get photos into your actual post?

Edit: I've worked out how to do the photo thing. See next post of one of my wheaties from last summer.

Sorry, didn't want to take things OT. I was experimenting how to get a photo loaded into a post.

Back on topic, I finally plucked up the courage to drill a hole through my boiler this morning. No more syphoning for me from now on.

Well all done and cleaned up and it all went pretty smoothly, i fell 1 litre short of my final target so i can deal with that for my first attempt at a double but apart from that it was great and Warra- omg why did i not put a tap in my last pot it was so damn easy it was almost criminal
