Well, looks like I will not enjoy my cricket as much now........
The LEGEND Adam Gilchrist is retiring.
I have received many SMS's and emails with commiserations as I am his No 1 fan.
The man is an absolute legend. It is no surprise that he was in the 3 World Cup wins and both record streaks of 16 wins in a row in Test cricket.
All we need now is for Hayden and Punter to retire and Aussie cricket will be in the doldrums like the 80's that I had to live through.
Cheers

I think it is the right time for Gilchrist to go. He has done wonderfully for Australia over the last 10 years. He isn't as sharp as he used to be and lets face it wicketkeeping is the toughest job on the cricket field and to do for 96 consecutive Test matches is incredible and obviously very draining, thats not even including the mass of runs he has scored. One of the top 5 cricketers to ever play for Australia.
Plus if Ponting and Hayden did decide to retire tomorrow, Australian cricket will not go back to those days. There is a huge amount of depth in Australian cricket. Look we have covered Martyn's, Langer's, McGrath's and Warne's retirements well enough and can still win Test matches. Also Brad Haddin is a great player to have to replace Gilchrist. An equally good glovesman and a very good batsmen.

I wonder if we could of got a few more year out of him, if he wasnt keeping wicket. He was first and formost a batting genious.
Im not sure if Aussie cricket was that bad back then, or if the Windies were that good.

I too was shocked to hear the announcement at the end of play last night. In fact I was at a party when I heard it, and went outside to tell everyone the terrible news and the instant reply was "you are full of shit". No one wanted to believe he is leaving. I am assuming Hayden will be right behind him, he nearly left with Langer last year. Surely we will never replace these guys, but we can hope that some of the youngsters are up to the challenge of trying

Hi Damo,
Well I thought I'd have a check on our stats. I picked 85 as it was in the middle......The poms beat us, New Zealand beat us

and India drew with us

.
Bring back Gilly
I remember going to Tests knowing that most results were going to be Australia winning......but that's because we played at the spin friendly Sydney
The Windies were awesome.....but we were pretty crap in certain games, all bar Boonie and Border IMO......
Cheers

I must of had suppressed memory syndrome, that 85 team was VERY ordinary. With the exception of Stubby, who should of been made captain instead of Border. If Gilly had of concentrated on batting im sure he would had an average around 65ish.
Do you think James Holland will make it into the Aussie soccer team?
Cheers Damo

Yeah I reckon if Gilly gave the gloves to some-one else and came in at 5, his average would have been much higher.
Out of the current Jets, the 2 Griffiths brothers, Jade North and James Holland should make the aussie team.
Put James Holland and Adam Griffiths on the bench both as attacking midfielders.......
They played pretty good for the 2-0 win....the CC were unlucky with a bad offside call against Aloisi.....man he's got a bad temper
Back to Gilly, I think this will peter out to a draw today

, which is a shame for Gilly's last test. It would have been interesting if Clarke had taken the catch and they were 2fa at stumps......
Clarke will have to retire now, he dropped a catch

.....Healy will be sledging him for sure today, like he did to Gilchrist

.....I do not like Healy...
Cheers
