...makes me fart like a trooper, am I the only one? Both my local drinking cohorts have confirmed my suspicions.

What say you?

ps: I "may" have put a decent dent in a keg tonight

Let me guess, you had chili con carne for lunch and indian curry for dinner and now you are trying to blame the HB!

I must say I have never noticed an increase in flachulance with wheat beers, but..better out than in right? Maybe you should be more worried about the missus letting you into bed tonight ;)

that's interesting then, cause last night was with a golden ale - the previous bad arse explosion nights involved a stout & irish red, both with wheat malt to add body, the golden was 2/5ths wheat - no maltodextrin (Corn syrup) anywhere near it, unless there is some in the malt extract?

My barley only brews don't seem to do it though, same boil procedure regardless of ingredients so that shouldn't be a variable.

I'd put it down to wheat :?

Oh, no curry or any other flatulence inspiring foods for a couple of days prior too

Ohh, now that I think of it they've only commented on it for the darker beers, where is could be proteins or unfermented carbs doing it for them - whereas it could be wheat for me.

the plot thickens!

There are multiple explanations I've heard for this, the most authoritative being maltodextrin and yeast. Could it be that your wheatie has a poorly flocculating yeast?

I know that yeast affects me that way, so I'm quite a careful pourer of homebrew when it's in a bottle, and I usually leave my kegs in the fridge for a week before I get started on them.

Oh, and I never use maltodextrin, I just use carapils instead.
