ive just been thinking about bottling for future brews. for now i have the PET bottles and should be right for my first brew, but im working on a collection of glass bottles. i have a few of the grolsch swingtops and a couple of crown tops, but i was wondering can i cap screw tops? any advice on this would be apreciated.

You can cap twist tops the same as crown seals, not as easy but still works. Make sure you get a quality capper like the superautomatica.

Bottling screwcaps has come up a few times.

I used to simply reuse the screwcaps. Sanitise, and SCREW back on. No problems. Use swingtops now - easier still.

i recently walked around to a couple of local pubs and asked if i could raid their bins for longneck bottles. so taken aback by my spirit was one barmaid that she offered to keep all the little creatures pint bottles for me.

so now i have 2 pubs doing this for me. get out there and ask around, you'll be surprised what some people will do if you are nice enough.

I get my bottles at the golf club as I go round. Also, if you get friendly with your bar staff they are more than happy usually to give you bottles.
If you do this you won't be able to brew fast enough to keep up with your stock of bottles.
I clean and brush all my collected botttles, and give them a final spray with a sanitiser before storing.
You can recap screwtops, but as noted before, preferably use a good bench capper, like the superautonomica.

Another good place to get your bottles is your local recycling centre. I have found hundreds of bottles this way. I only keep the 750 ml bottles and my kids sell of the 800ml bottles for about $12 for 50...keeps them interested in helping to collect them
