Australia chasing 168 off 36 overs to win the second test. Will be a huge victory if they can pull it off. Heading home in 15 minutes to watch the finish with a couple of Pale Ales.

Funny because just a few hours before the start of day 5 I was talking to some Poms about the cricket and they were all saying how they have played much better this Test. They spoke a little too soon.

It was so nice of the TAB to give me a $1.60 for every $ i gave them, just for the honour of sitting in their fine premises, drinking beer, and watching the last session on their big screen with mates

Great win, looks like the Ashes are coming home. The Drunk (Ponting) is a dead set legend and Paris (Hussey) just can't do a thing wrong. Well done boys, looking forward to the WACA.

Just heard on the radio, the Aussies are 1 to 1000 on to win the Ashes (ie for each $1000 you place on the Aussies, you will get an extra dollar back if you win)

And if you placed the money correctly at a BANK, you can earn better INTEREST than those odds, for the few weeks the Ashes remain to run for.

You obviously have a better bank than i do
on the bright side at least the TAB is open after 5 and hasn't reduced the number of outlets it has in rural areas

Especially when you run the risk of England winning atleast 2 of the next 3 Tests and losing that $1000. One guy lost $20 000 when Bangladesh beat Australia last year, looking for a quick $500. Scblack is right, through $1000 into an ING savings account and you'll get more than $1 each month.

but how excited do you get when you walk into the bank not knowing whether they have given you interest or not

How exciting is it to know that you won $1 for the $1,000 risked?
Not exactly blowing my candle out.

I just posted some superb Ashes jokes over in this thread:

btw, my mate Cam and I watched the last session at some "English" pub in Melbourne Central. You should have heard the crowd erupt (there weren't any Englishmen there) when we got seven off a ball.
And you should have seen the place clear out when we won. It was just me, Cam and the barmaid. That didn't stop us having a couple more, though.
Cheers,
Oliver
