I've used it a little bit; it's simple, effective and free. I'm not sure about the imperial to metric conversion though; I'll have to have a squiz at the code... oh, did I mention it's FOSS? :)

I've just downloaded and installed qbrew, pretty impressed with it- especially for free software.

i have one question though:

looking at the image below, it's got a choice for your grain/extract (it's on Light DME in the pic below), then below that there's Quantity, Extract, Color and Use. I know what all of them are except "Extract" - it looks like a gravity measurement, but what should go there for LDME for example? if it's not known, how would it be calculated? dissolve a known amount of LDME in a known amount of water and use a hydrometer?

hope to hear, thanks all :D

I use QBrew for my extract brews and find it very easy to use and quite accurate. Mainly I use it for getting the right balance with hoop additions.

KEG, I think each malt/grain has a default set of data i.e a default colour, extract etc. When yo uchange it to Crystal 10L it will change and so on and so forth. Not being a whiz at these things, I just leave it alone!

Er, no expert either, but I think this is relevant:

http://www.howtobrew.com/section1/chapter3-4.html
A pound of LME typically yields a gravity of 1.034 - 38, as measured by a hydrometer, when dissolved in one gallon of water. DME yields about 1.040 - 43.
Thanks again, Palmer. :)

Hi Pale,

That hoop you are writing about. Is that the one you jump through?
