Stout suggestions?

Post by timmy »

Hi all,

I just picked up a can of Coopers Stout on special. I'm a bit of a stout novice, having only just discovered Cascade Stout that I'm pretty impressed with. My question is - is it possible to create a passable clone of Cascade Stout using the Coopers Stout kit?? I can guess that I'll probably need 100g or so of chocolate malt but at a loss about the rest....

Cheers,

Tim

Id drop in a 1-1.5 kilo of ldme, maybe a little roast black malt, some choc as you said and some goldings or willamette as you see fit, that would just about do it and for the ultimate finish use a wyeast irish ale

Timmy,
I put this one down a while back and while it was an Irish Stout Coopers Kit, I'm sure the regaulr Coopers Stout kit will work:

Coopers Brewmaster Irish Stout Kit (or Coopers Stout)
1.4kg Dark Liquid Malt Extract - boiled @ 65 degrees for 60 mins
Chocolate Malt Grain (140g) - steeped 30 mins
Rolled Oats (200g) - steeped 30 mins
White Labs WLP004 - Irish Ale - pitched directly into wort

Threw it all into fermenter and topped up to 18L....

It's about 3 weeks in the bottle and I can slowly see the flavours developing - going to be a real nice drop....

Cheers!
