As a newbie can bottled water such as you buy in supermarkets be used in making a home brew

Of course. Its water after all
As a bonus, you usually get a bit of an analysis of what's in it, so you will have an idea of hardness etc.

It is an expensive way to do it, especially when starting out. Much better off getting a brita water cartridge and bucket setup.

If it is distilled, no you can't, It doesn't have the minerals req'd for yeast growth and sugar extraction (if using grains)

I get the big 10 litre casks of spring water from the Supermarket, they are about 3 or 4 bucks each.

i usually get about 16 litres from Aldi, never costs more than $8. plus you can chill it prior if you are doing a lager.
