In this link in this thread there's talk about "echos" when referring to 375ml beer bottles.

As in "Bottle trees are also a good idea as you can store 60-70 echo's (sic) on it and it can save space."

How many people still call them echos? I think this is a peculiarly South Australian term, and I assume it's because you used to take the "echo" back and get a refund.

Thoughts and experiences, anyone?

yeh that is why they were called echos
but I dont know if too many people call them that anymore, I could be wrong though, I just dont hear the term bandied around

I've never heard them called that before

we are talking late 70's, and into the 80's from memory, the stubbies even had a distinctive shape, different from the usual crap going around, ie. VB

Haven't heard that term in years! Yes bottles different shap with ring-pull caps that some people could make little motorbikes out of for us kiddies to play with!

Might start bringing that term back into general usage

Yeah, a lot of people I know in SA still refer to them as Echoes, mainly the baby boomers though, because we grew up drinking a lot of them I suppose! It is particularly common when refering to stubbie holders, stubbie coolers..............Echo holders.
