I bought a couple of these to see what the rave was and all I get from them is a nose full of chlorophenols.

Anyone else seen this or is it supposed to be that way?

never noticed chlorophenols in any I've had! Might be me though

Seeing you didn't like the Hoegaarden, Dogger, it would be a laugh if you liked the VB.

Tried the Hoegaarden on Tap a a bar down the road from work. Nice, but not worth the extra $$ as compared to a Coopers Pale or Sparkling.

Don't forget though, that the VB Dogger's got is imported to custom order, so it must be better.

Well, you are either a wheat person or not.

I have always loved redback, so naturally love Hoegaarden, although Leffe Blonde is better. For Dogger Unibroue's chambly de blanc should be pretty similar -and certainly fresher.

OTOH I have decided i dont like stouts - tried sheaf and a few others, OMG I am now convinced they are simply not me.

It must be good on tap then, i tried a few at the pub on Magnetic Island and thought they were very nice.

wouldn't mind being able to reproduce a clone.

Don't write stouts off completely until you've tried Coopers Best Extra Stout. Probably the best stout going around, I reckon.

Sheaf Stout is OK, but don't base your opinions of stout as a whole on it.

One of my locals provides this on tap and in 1ltr glasses (they make you put a $10 deposit on the glass because so many guys nick off with them). I quite liked it, though it may have been a matter or quantity over quality - I really don't remember.

i agree pharmaboy. unfortunatly i'm not a wheat person.. i find most wheats (including hoegaarden & most wits) too phenolic & sourish/tart for my tastes. not sure if it's a yeast or unmalted wheat issue but i tend to steer clear. thats just my opinion tho

i always give them a try. some i don't mind. i found 2 i liked on our recent 'wineries & breweries' road trip - neagles rock wheat (clare SA) & the barossa valley brewing co. wheat.. both i quiet enjoyed

I dont know what chlorophenols smell like, but tried a Hoegaarden for the first time last night. At first it tasted like medicine, an overpowering sweet almost aniseed like taste. I wasnt impresssed.

I Can only say if I was faced with Hoegaarden or water as my choices for a drink Id probably choose water an if that is the result of putting coriander in beer, then its off my list of ingredients Id like to use one day.

Im hoping my TCB summer wheat doesnt taste anything like that.

I love the stuff, but wouldnt go out and buy a case a rediculous prices

a scooner here and there is refreshing and certainly better than VB!!!

I bought a stubbie of redback on my way home today, just to try another wheat beer. This had the same initial (though slightly less pungent) aroma, but no where near the taste profile as well. Much more enjoyable. Heres hoping my wheat beer works out OK.

I bought some of these in the bottle and I had to pour them out. They were disgusting.

My mate couldn't drink Hoe'ies because he reckoned it smelt like baked beans. I could never smell it though......

Brilliant on tap. Also try Ferals Belgian White Beer if you live in Perth. It's Hoegaarden only better. Again, on tap. The Flying Scotsman in Mt Lawley has it.
