From SMH Unusual Tales:
Nicotine beer in pipeline
October 4, 2005

A German company has come up with a novel way of beating bans on smoking in pubs - put the nicotine in the beer.

A new beer, known as NicoShot, is undergoing testing in Germany with hopes it can be moved toward approval in the next few months.

Each beer contains three milligrams of nicotine and a 6.3 per cent alcohol reading.

Its German maker, Nautilus, claims the beer is designed to help smokers quit the habit rather than make the drink addictive.

"While NicoShot can lessen cravings, it is not a 'cure' for smoking," Nautilus said.

"But it can help you make changes in your lifestyle without having to walk out of the bar for a quick smoke to deal with sudden withdrawal symptoms.

"Over time, when you are more comfortable being a non-smoker, the use of nicotine beer can be reduced and then stopped."

Gave em up on the Monday after Mothers Day 2000.

Was an 80 a day man, tried nictine patches for 2 weeks and decided they were sh..t and then went cold turkey. Promptly had a nervous breakdown that the doc attributed to the nicotine withdrawals and have not looked back since.

Only draw back is now I get every cold and bug that goes around and it goes straight to my chest, when I smoked I never had a bad cold or flu.

woke up one morning about 18 months ago after a hard night out, discovered I'd smoked 2 packs in one night and didn't have a morning smoke left in the house. Was too hungover to even think about going to shop to get any and the boss had no sympathy for my plight.

haven't had one since, before that had tried patches etc nothing worked!

mind you I did stay away from pub for first two weeks, then decided that I would try the lozenges and go the pub. Had a lozenge, note just the one, rest of pack still on top of fridge. THey were bloody horrible, almost made me have a smoke they tasted that disgusting!

When I was in Japan they had a canned drink that was promoted by Arnold Schwarzenegger. It was marketed as a soft-drink/sports drink but it had huge amounts of caffiene + nicotine in it. Apparently it gave one elderly man a heart attack. Not sure if its still on the market, of course you can still get Mucos, Pocari Sweat and Calpis.

I have about one cigarette a month and find it very enjoyable!

Never smoked, never going to. Favourite aunt was a heavy smoker, died of lung cancer early 2001.

my story's similar to grab's,

used to suffer chronic hangovers and could not even look at a smoke all day.

Had an extra big night followed by the super size hangover and next thing i knew i hadn't had a smoke for 2 days. :D

35 a day to zero, that was 2 yrs ago and i've never even missed the horrible bloody things.

So....... Binge Drinking is good for you :P

cheers

How reassuring to see a bunch of non-smoker....pissheads!

10 yrs of smoking 20/day. My year-old daughter found an 'easy way to stop smoking' book in the house, and left it out for me.
Cold turkey.
Never looking back.
(it was in feb)

Cheers
