Hi Lads (and Laddettes if you are still around Anna)
Is it OK to put a fresh wort onto a yeastcake if it has had finings or polyclar added to the previous brew ?
I love the simplicity of reusing a yeast cake, and the speed that it starts fermenting at, but am not sure what negative affects the finings would have.
This is a thought only.
My suspicion would be no you couldn't. Although if the temp is brought back to say 18c, I could be wrong!! I had the same query in mind before i started racking but didn't try it. Would be curious to find out for sure as well.

Whilst i have not done this I don't see anything wrong with it.
My personal preference would be to scoop out 1 cup of the yeastcake and pitch that into another fermenter. An entire yeastcake is overpitching and whilst, arguably, not as detrimental as underpitching, you only need 1 cup (assuming you aren't making a high OG beer).
The finings shouldn't affect the performance of the yeast.

In response to your quire there will be no noticeable effect on the yeast as the sole
Action of finings is to create an electro action in the medium which brings about a clumping affect
The particles in solution are attracted to each other
Once this action takes place there combined weight will cause them to floc or drop from solution
Try this instead of using floc pills etc
You would do better to place your fermenter into a fridge and set the temperature at 1 degree c and hold it there and let nature do its thing
You will see clear beer soon enough
