i'm a 'boxing day brewer' and just finished drinking my first stubby of my first homebrew and am blown away by how good it was.

so my first task to to thank all here for for the good natured and informative advice that was at least partly responsible for the outcome.

for the record, it was the following:

1.7kg can coopers real ale
700g dme
250g maltodextrin
250g dextrose
10g pride of ringwood @ 60min
10g cascade @ 20min
10g cascade @ 5min
safale us-56 pitched at 28deg?!
ferment 1 wk at 24 - 26 deg
og 1.045 fg 1.014

needless to say, got my second brew down and am scambling for empty longies like mad.

Good effort for your first brew! My first 10 brews were just kit and brew enhancer jobs.

yeah.
after reading the posts on this site, i found it pretty hard to adopt a known inferior method of kit and kilo. it wasn't really all that hard though, even for a first-timer, although the mistake of pitching the yeast at high temps did produce some fruity-apple-skin off tastes.

bottled my second brew this morning which should be an improvement on the first, and am going a mini-mash this arvo for my third.
