You do need to adjust for temperature on your hydrometer readings.
If you use a brewing program like BeerSmith it has, as one of its tools, a hydrometer adjustment calculator.
Or you an do it manually. Link here with table.
Thanks once again warra, have printed out the table from that site and have downloaded a trail of the beersmith software , I will give it a go and if i get on with it and find it usful I will pay for the full version. The site the table came from also looks very interesting and I think I could learn a fair bit from it, so that for putting me on to it.
Thanks Rob
I might get in trouble here, I don't use the hydrometer at all, I just look at the air lock.
When the water in the air lock is lower on the fermenter side it's still brewing (increased pressure in the fermenter), when the fluid in the air lock is at the same level (Pressure equalized between atmosphere and fermenter) I bottle, also note I don't bottle before it's been in the fermenter 2 weeks. Generally speaking my air lock equalizes on about day 8 or 9.
Now that I have a keg system I might start racking, I'm still a little concerned about infections, the more you play with the beer the higher the chance. I haven't had an infection yet. I use the KISS method ( Keep It Simple, Stupid)
