New Year's Resolutions (HB)

Post by Smabb »

MY NYR in relation to Home brewing is to achieve much better temperature control.

Task # 1. Make a permanent space in the shed for the fementor(s)
Task #2. Insulate said shed.

cheers

Ohhhh baby... that makes my 2 fermenter fridge sound like a pony of light next to a pint of stout.

My resolution is to get a better burner and go BIAB. But I also want to find my 'groove' so that I get the whole deal down pat with less sweat.

With you on that one, although the shed clean up is the hardest as I seem to collect crap
2 benches are in production and a fridgemate is on the way to rectify a knackered thermostat in the old fridge to continue brewing through summer.

Now I just need more time and I'm set

My Resolution is to brew twice as much\quick so I can at least get some beer to age before drinking. ( Production pace does not keep up with drinking pace)
Will get a racking cube, 1 week in fermenter rack to cube, means I should be able to do a beer a week, if that doesn't work a 2nd fermenter and cube.
I have 6 kegs now and have never had more than 3 filled at a time, and then generally as I am filling the 3rd the first is about to run dry.
Cheers and HNY

Off Topic (sorry Smabb):

Sounds like you need some cheap BMW fermenters from Bunnings - put in 2 cheap + robust 'drink now' brews and another, more complex one for ageing.

my New Years resolutions are

1. learn as much as i can because im a noob at this
2. move away from the concentrate cans (unlike my family members who have used concentrate for 3+years)
3.buy 2 more fermenters so i can have 3 and start buying more bottles

and also decide wether i want to stay on my health kick/get buff routine or relax with a HB everynight?

Don't buy bottles. I get all my bottles from the empties I collect around my golf club. There are lots of ways to get free bottles, unless you want to buy them with beer to drink first, of course.

Give the brewery, 6-tap chesty and everything brew related a damn good clean.

Have been pretty lax in the cleaning department of late and think my beers are suffering as a result.

Hopefully I'll keep this resolution.

You brew for a living James? Where and since when?

I think the first thing i will be doing is finally cleaning the kettle and removing the beerstone from 40 brews.

Then onto the resolutions.

Discover some new hops - i have in the freezer but yet to use: Simcoe, Centennial (cheers Bizier), Challenger, Northdown, Galaxy.

Get a new tap installed on the HLT so i can attach a hose and underlet.

Start double batches.

Stop hoarding hops and yeast so i can buy it fresh and when i need it!

Install permanent hoses for the plate chiller.

Finally make up a logo for the brewry to put on the tap tops in the bar.

Remember to have my morning coffee before posting on here (i will try harder this year Greg!)

Cheers and here's to many great beers for 2009

I'll be starting at Gage Rds on the 12th....Assistant brewer... dunno how i'm gonna go without an autoclave to sterlise my starter wort, but i can see many more advantages than disadvantages.

Centennial is a great hop... i also have simcoe, challenger, and northdown in the freezer i have yet to try... i have a kg of galaxy... its a good hop, but very potent... (15%).

double batches would be great, but until i find a brew i'm really happy with, 20L is enough beer for me to waste.

I am with you on the permanent hoses.. i am sick of having to continually take apart the garden hose fitting so i can connect it to the hosetail on my plate chiller...

nothing wrong with hording yeast (unless its the smack packs you havent smacked)...

Mine is to slow down my output get rid if my 500ml handles and replace them with 250ml ones, and probably reduce my grain bill by 10% per batch and don't drink any more summer wine.

But first you should chuck down a funky Belgian dubbel or something, isn't the beerstone part of the magic or something?

No James definitely do not get like Dr Steve Brule, but yes in the middle of the berry and cherry season down here. There have many songs about the perils of drinking summerwine in the heat of the day.

Congrats on this BTW too James, I am supremely envious.
As it turns out from a conversation about an hour ago, apparently a mate of a mate works there too.
