Newbie: No bubbling from fermenter

Post by seannicholson2 »

I just bought a coopers micro brew kit and mixed my first brew yesterday, its been 24hrs and theres no bubbling from the airlock. Somethign i noticed was condendation on the outer side of the o-ring on the lid, i have screwed it as tight as it will go but alas no bubbling. Before i added the yeast yesterday i had a gravity reading of 1050 and 24hrs later a reading of 1026, is it fermenting?
All help is appreciated
Thanks in advance
sean

Welcome to the forum Sean,

There are "Stickies" at the top of every forum on here with common questions and even Basic Brewing Instructions there as well.....which is very helpful.

Oh and in answer to your question, yes it is brewing......all the things you mentioned are signs of it cooking... Condensation, dropping FG......

Cheers

It's fermenting like anything mate. The yeast have consumed more than half the available sugars already! :)

You probably have a leak at the airlock grommet.

Have a close look at the lid Sean - you may have it tightly on but not level when you screwed it onto the fermenter body and it's leaking - but that's ok, people have been "open" fermenting beer for centuries...

Cheers,

No worries - to borrow your technical terminology, it won't go to sh!t unless you stick something foreign in the wort!

....erm, you were facing Mecca when you screwed the lid on, weren't you?
