lactose substitute??

Post by skinnysteve »

Hi all,
I am in japan, and found the recipe for Kilkenny on this site. I have tried finding lactose here, but have had no luck. The only place that seems to carry it online told me that "due to BSE scares (a few years back) and recent trade restrictions, it has become impossible to import lactose".......

Can anyone suggest a substitute for 150g of lactose??!??

cheers

You could try a bit of Sucrulose (Splenda). Say 50g of the baking variety. Combine it with a steep of some oatmeal (flaked oats), say 100 g, and you might get close.

Lactose in an Irish Red Ale / Kilkenny??? Interesting!
I can understand using sugar syrups and/or corn syrup and/or carapils and/or even acidulated malt, but lactose?

Cheers,
