Two brews, two kits... too late

Post by Daron1973 »

OK, so i thought I'd multi task and get two brews on the go at once.

In one pot we had 500g Brew Enhancer 1 and 500g Dried Light Malt, 500g dextrose with a Coopers Lager to go in the boil and some hallertau hops in the fermenter...

In pot No.2 we have 1kg of LME, 500g Dark ME, 500g maltodex, and 500g dextrose with a Coopers Real Ale to go in with Fuggles for the fermenter later. (I know this is gonna kick!)

Anyway, all going well until the kids get restless, a parent turns up to collect my daughter's friend, I've downed a couple of manditory beers, and having timed it to perfection of having hops on the go, the kits were ready for their entry into the pot party...

FAAAAAARK! This stupid prick put the Lager in the real pot.... so of course I had to tip the Real Ale in the lager pot.

So now my Lager, which i pitched a Brewcraft lager yeast, is quite dark, while the Real Ale will be down on some of the intended falvour. Mind, the RA with the kit yeast was ferocious on the ferment while the lager (with Real Ale kit) was slow as buggery to take off. But did and is going well.

This happened on Saturday. I still feel like a muppet.

Still, I may have just created a couple of kick arse brews... ya never know.

I just wanted to vent about this mishap... that is all.

So, who wants to brew to a style?
You have just joined the "ooooopppsssss I mucked up my brew, but it tastes blooming loverly anyway" brigade.
I'm sure they'll turn out fine. 8) :D
Next step is to move into specialty grain additions, before joining the dark side.

Aaaahh, don't mind me. I'm seriously enjoying an AG English Special Bitter brewed with all SaazB. I know it's out of style, but geez, it's a nice drink....drool....I think I'll have another. :D :D

The real ale, which took the lager kit by me being a f@#kwit, is actually a ripper ale. Not too sweet, malty, decently strong - 6.5% plus I believe. S I'm happy with that. The lage, which copped the real ale kit is faily bitter and not so flash... who'da thunk!? But time may settle it.

So from experience, f@#kups aren't always a f@#kup....

Lager you need to leave for longer anyway. Lager does mean 'to store' so that's what you should do. Lager it for another couple of months and try it then. I imagine it would turn into a great drop.
