Having just finished listening to the Tigers bet the Lions while having some home brews and snacks I was thinking what is your favourite beer drinking snack.

I am partial to pickled onions or the old favourite chips.

Oh and go the Tigers!!!!!!!

Also gotta be sooo careful not to transfer oil/grease from the chips to your lips to the glass, coz that will then send your beer flat.

Shaun it depends on the time of day and type of beer and all but I must admit I don't mind gnawing on some beef jerky or kettle chips, home made sausage rolls go down a treat as well.

Had a Pommie mate once that used to rave about Guinness and pickled eggs. Can't imagine he'd be too popular the morning after

See what I can find tomorrow. Being long weekend I have nothing to do seeing I finished shingling roof today. Other than filter, keg and start up a new brew.

I also think pretzels are good. But if you really want the chain reaction thing, I find there is one thing that is better: Chilli picked onions! Best to make your own. A jar of your favourite brown pickled onions (I know its cheating, but it works for me!). Open jar, put in a generous number of your favourite chilli (chosen for bite: I go for "birds eye" or habanero, because they are generally the hottest - and I grow 'em myself for this express purpose). Reseal jar. Put in fridge for as long as you can bear to leave them.
Consume with beer (of course), sliced, on a plain cracker.
Overall experience can be enhanced by accompanying the chilli onions with chilli beer (I prefer a chilli wheat beer myself, but, who knows, maybe my tastes are unusual?). Best to try this only at home, under adult supervision, and not 24 hours preceding driving or operating machinery.

peterd - that sounds awesome :D i have 6 or so habanero's ready for picking.. 'll be trying that for sure. do you dry the chilli's first?

Are you talking about for the onions or the beer? For the onions, just put them in. If you want to have a quicker effect, cut the habaneros in half first.
For the beer, I also use them fresh.
I add them to the bottle.
I have variously put them in with no sanitising, by pouring boiling water over them, and using sanitising solution (followed by rinsing in boiled water). No problems at any time, with any method. For habaneros in bottle, you will need to slice them to get them in the bottle (besides, a full habanero in a single beer might be a little too much even for a committed chilli-head!). I prefer to use a small whole chilli if I have some around (saves cutting the chilli, then discovering some time later that you have a habit you didn't know about: rubbing your eyes!)

Of course, you have to wait a while to get the effect. The longer you wait, the hotter the onions get. Of course, as the onions get hotter, the pickled chillies that you are making as a byproduct get milder. Need to balance these competing effects. Requires regular sampling, much beer, ...

I have done this. Effect is still pleasing, but, as I said, not as noticeable as a chilli wheat beer. This one really kicks, and, as the direction this thread was going was discussing highly resonant feedback loops involving eating and drinking, the chilli wheat beer has the money!

Since there is a bit of a trend going around at the moment .. I figured i'd boost an old thread also..

Some of my most favourite bar snacks are as follows:

Summer -

I cannot go past sinking some pale ales and nibbling on some delightful thai fish cakes or chilli stuffed olives.

Winter -

Mother in laws garlic meatballs, garlic chicken wings are some of the best snacks i've ever tasted .. goes absolutely fantastic with dark ales
